What are functional mushrooms?

Functional or 'medicinal' mushrooms are non-psychedelic mushrooms that have been used for thousands of years in traditional East Asian medicine for their health boosting properties for the body and mind.

Are functional mushrooms safe to use?

Yes. The mushrooms we use are non-poisonous varieties and safe to consume in the form of your choosing.

Are functional mushrooms legal in South Africa?

Yes. None of our functional mushrooms are illegal, nor are they listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) list. These mushrooms have been used in traditional healing for well over 5000 years, and so it is also very unlikely that they will ever become illegal.

Where do you source your functional mushrooms from?

Our mushrooms are sourced through Germany from China, where functional mushrooms have been a part of everyday life and traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Internationally, China is also the leading producer of functional mushrooms and the only place you can source organic, log-grown mushroom fruiting bodies.

Will I hallucinate or ‘trip’ after taking functional mushrooms?

Definitely not. This is the most significant difference between psilocybin mushrooms and functional mushrooms – psilocybin mushrooms are the ones that produce hallucinogenic and psychedelic effects. The mushrooms we use in our products do not.

Due to the fact that there is not enough research to indicate either a positive or negative outcome, women who are pregnant, lactating, and/or people who have an ongoing health condition they are being treated for should talk to their doctor before making the decision to consume functional mushrooms.
