Each month we invite Anel Van Der Merwe from the Kind (but Good) Food blog to create a plant-based recipe for us using CBD. On the menu this time? A Rooibos CBD Ice Tea. Enjoy!
"I’ve been getting into mocktails recently (also... the lockdown alcohol banned forced it on me) and have been absolutely loving it!
Creating my own infusions and syrup bases has been a fun experiment, although most recipes are either complicated or packed with sugar.
So I wanted to create an infusion (a fancy word for iced tea, really) that’s a little bit lighter and a lot better for you.
And this one does the trick. Made with our proudly South African antioxidant powerhouse rooibos tea, infused with fresh strawberries, basil, some lemon for a bit of tang, and some agave nectar for a touch of natural sweetness.
But the clear win in this recipe is the easy addition of Goodleaf Broad Spectrum CBD oil, to to make this mocktail not only delicious and alcohol-free, but to also give it that chill factor.
I love adding CBD here because it’s a tasty way to get my daily dose and adds a health benefit, whereas alcohol would have been fun (no doubt) but not the best for my spirit (or liver).
This infusion recipe is super simple, and to serve you simply add however much of it you want to your glass, top up with some sparkling water (or half sparkling, half tonic water), drop in some CBD and give it a stir!
Easy, good for you, and looks pretty too."

ROOIBOS CBD ICE TEA RECIPE
- 4 rooibos tea bags
- peel of 1 lemon
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 2 tbsp agave nectar / vegan honey
- 4 - 5 big strawberries, washed and sliced
- 1 small handful basil leaves, torn
Stir everything together in a jar, place the lid on ajar, and pop into the fridge for anywhere from 4 hours to overnight.
Then, strain off the liquid and store in the fridge in a sealed container until ready to use.
To make a CBD fizz mocktail: fill your glass with some of the infusion and top off with sparkling water (the ratio is totally dependent on you - play around!) and loads of ice.
Then add 10 drops of 600mg Goodleaf Broad Spectrum CBD oil directly to your glass. Add a sliced strawberry, a basil leaf or two, and some lemon peel for an extra flavour boost!
