We frequently get asked by women and their partners - is it okay to take CBD while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The swollen ankles and uncomfortable bodies of moms-to-be and those postpartum stand to benefit from CBD’s pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as its natural antidepressant properties.
Not to mention its ability to effectively combat nausea and increase appetite - a godsend to any women suffering from morning sickness or hyperemesis gravidarum.
Anecdotally there have been many reports of pregnant or lactating women benefiting from the use of CBD in these ways.
CBD when pregnant
And while research on the subject is scarce, a 2016 study (link in bio) showed that the use of CBD-rich cannabis during pregnancy to treat acute and chronic symptoms did not cause any significant neonatal outcomes.
However, understandably there are still two distinct schools of thought on the matter. While some don't believe it will cause any harm, others are concerned about the lack of scientific evidence to support either outcome.
The unfortunate truth is that as cannabidiol has only in recent years become legally considered for medical treatment, there have not been enough studies carried out on the subject to provide any empirical truths.
Ultimately the choice is an entirely personal one, but we absolutely advise any pregnant or breastfeeding women to first consult their doctors before making the decision to use CBD.
